I am writing this at midnight with only the light of a candle. I have just snuck inside the silent house. My family is sound asleep. Our cat Daisy is at April's feet. I was at the Boston tavern. I met a soldier named George Speare that has come from Valley Forge. He was as handsome as a rose. He had no shoes on his feet. It was sorrowful. I am thinking of making him a bounty coat. Candle going out...

I woke up at 6:00 am to the sound of chickens. I got dressed, and ran down stairs and out the door. April my little sister was chasing Bess our chicken. She would not stop running ,so she could lay her eggs. I finally caught her and put her down in the barn. A few minutes later she laid her eggs. April and I milked the cow and went to eat breakfast. Mother was heating porridge. We poured the milk into four glasses. Father bursted through the door.(he had just been in town selling shoes)He said he had great news. We all sat down to eat our porridge. We said a prayer and started to eat. Father said a wagon salesman offered him a job! He was going to build wagons. He didn't have to sell shoes anymore! Father would start his job tomorrow! I wasn't going to tell anyone about last night. My mother and father would kill me if they found out that I was out late.

I have not written because the weather has been rainy and there is nothing to talk about. Father has been working outside on a wagon for the past month and now he's sick with with........pneumonia. I'm so sad for father he has just gotten a great job and his life is going great then all of a sudden he gets pneumonia! I have stayed inside making a coat for my soldier. George is still staying in Boston and goes to the tavern every night I see him when I can. I'm going to sneak out to the tavern tonight to see him and give him the coat. I snuck out at ten and went to the tavern he was there and he asked me something very special. He asked me to marry him! He said he was now retired from the army! He could now stay with me forever. All I had to do was tell my parents. He also loved the coat. I was so happy I ran home with him my eyes filling with tears of joy. He stopped at his house and went to bed, I kept going to mine. I snuck in silently again everyone was asleep. I was so happy I couldn't sleep. Too excited to write.........

I awoke at 6:00 am sharp. I got dressed and ran downstairs. April was sitting at the table mom was in the kitchen heating porridge. Father wasn’t laying on the cot on the floor as usual.April did look kind of glum I thought it could only mean one thing. Father must have died during the night. I said"No, no, no, it couldn’t have happened." I sat down in a chair at the table I started to sob. Mother ran to me and said “sh, sh, sh, don’t cry." I cried for a few minutes then worked up the courage to tell them about George. I said ‘I have been seeing a retired soldier named George Speare ,and he asked me to marry him, last night.” My mother cried joyfully and April threw her arms around me happily! I said yes. Mother said,” When ever will you get married?” I don’t know. I will ask him soon the next time I see him.
Epilogue
A month later she got married on the 31st of July. It was beautiful, her mother and April cooked a feast for her and George . In April of 1778 she had a baby girl and they named her Harriet in memory of her father.
